Sixth Form Boys win Redbridge Cup Final

The eagerly awaited final between OPHS and Woodbridge began as a closely contested match, with both teams showing determination in the first 10 minutes. Woodbridge gained momentum by applying pressure on OPHS, resulting in Woodbridge taking a 1-0 lead. However, OPHS, as demonstrated throughout the Redbridge tournament, displayed remarkable resilience and determination. This was exemplified by a crucial tackle inside the box by our captain, Tayo D’Aguilar. This led to a swift counterattack, with Tayo making a powerful run and passing to Te’reon, who then delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Ziyad. Ziyad took a superb touch and scored, leveling the score at 1-1.

OPHS continued to battle against a physical Woodbridge side, and just before halftime, Woodbridge launched another attack. Despite beating the OPHS goalkeeper, Tayo  cleared the ball off the line, keeping OPHS in the game. Both teams went into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.

OPHS emerged from halftime with determination, playing attractive football and demonstrating their motivation to win the final. Ellis made a skillful run and passed to Ziyad, who, despite being surrounded by Woodbridge players, managed to score a beautiful goal with a clever piece of skill.

OPHS maintained their lead with an outstanding performance by debutant goalkeeper Octavian, who made numerous saves to keep OPHS ahead. Woodbridge continued to push for an equalizer, which they eventually found late in the second half. However, this didn’t dampen OPHS's spirits. Ellis made another impressive run and provided an excellent cross to Zayn, who scored under pressure.

OPHS demonstrated hard work, passion, and dedication, winning crucial duels and making sacrifices to secure the victory. They were crowned champions of Redbridge!

Final score: OPHS 3 - 2 Woodbridge
