Clean Air Campaign
Students from the Travel Green Team have this week been working with the Redbridge Clean Air Campaign.
They plotted 10/20 min zones around the area showing it might actually be easier AND quicker to just walk to school each day.

Walking or cycling to school offers several benefits, both for students and the community. Here are five key reasons:
Improved Physical Health:
Engaging in regular physical activity, such as walking or cycling to school, helps improves cardiovascular fitness, and strengthens muscles and bones. Regular exercise is essential for overall health and can reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
Enhanced Mental Well-being:
Physical activity is linked to better mental health. Walking or bikcycling to school can help reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. It also promotes the release of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters, leading to improved mental clarity and emotional stability.
Environmental Benefits:
Choosing to walk or cycle instead of driving reduces the carbon footprint associated with commuting. It decreases air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and reliance on fossil fuels. This contributes to a cleaner environment and helps combat climate change.
Increased Academic Performance:
Studies have shown that physical activity can improve cognitive function, concentration, and memory. Students who engage in regular exercise often perform better academically. The increased blood flow and oxygen to the brain from physical activity enhance cognitive functions, leading to improved focus and learning outcomes.
Development of Independence and Responsibility:
Walking or biking to school fosters a sense of independence and self-reliance in students. It encourages them to develop time management skills, punctuality, and responsibility for their safety and well-being. These skills are valuable for their overall development and future success.
