Prefect Team

Roles and responsibilities:

This role enables the post holder to achieve self development and status with regard to leadership, organisation and team work.

The Senior Prefect team will support the work of the entire Prefect team.

As such they are expected to:

  • Provide a positive role model to which all OPHS students can aspire.
  • Organise and monitor year 11 and 12 prefect’s lunch and break time duties.
  • Acting as guides for tours of the school eg: concerts, open evenings
  • Attendance at school events eg: concerts, open evenings
  • Assisting staff with requests for help eg: putting up displays
  • Assistance at assembly, as requested
  • Lead one assembly for each year group
  • Plan, organise and run fundraising activities for Children in Need, Red Nose Day and Sports Relief
  • Manage and lead the Year 11 and 12 prefect team and act as a link between the Prefect Team and the more senior post holders – Head Boy/Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy/Deputy Head Girl.
  • Oversee the organisation of Prefect activities e.g. Prom, Leavers Assembly, Year book, Common room decoration etc.
  • Meet regularly with the Sixth Form Team and Head teacher/Senior Management Team as required.

Student Council

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Setting up, running, co-ordinating and chairing the school council and it meetings
  • Contributing to School council meetings, attached year council meetings and school council executive meetings
  • Run a whole school election campaign for school council places
  • Lead Redbridge youth election voting
  • Collecting the views of the whole school and ensuring they are taken into consideration and heard
  • Promoting student voice
  • Ensuring there is a clear focus for students to work on in meetings
  • Take minutes of meeting and distributed to school council members and Heads of year
  • Create meeting Agendas
  • To lead whole school campaigns/projects put together by the school council (e.g. anit-bullying campaign, fundraising etc)
  • Coordinate year councils and form representatives submit a short termly update to Heads of year providing an update on the year/school council news.
  • Mentor lower school council members
  • To contribute a school council update to the Sixth form Bulletin once a term.
