Oaks Park is looking forward to welcoming our next round of lecture series speakers for the spring term. We are extremely privileged to be hosting the following guest speakers for January; Baroness Shami Chakrabarti (CBE), Professor Helen Gleeson (OBE) and Professor Aziz Abookaker.
Professor Gleeson is a British physicist. As of 2015 she holds the chair of Cavendish Professor at the University of Leeds, having left the University of Manchester at the start of 2015. She will be visiting the school on Monday 15th January to give a talk on liquid crystals in Physics and women in science. She will be working with small groups of students throughout the day about careers in science.
Professor Aboobaker is a Cambridge graduate who has worked at many top universities, including Berkeley and Nottingham. He is a Professor of Comparative and Functional Genomics and Tutorial Fellow at Lady Margaret Hall at the University of Oxford where he runs his own laboratory. Dr Aboobaker’s research is based on using planarians (flatworms) as a model system to study cell regeneration and aging. He will be visiting Oaks Park on Friday 19th January and will be delivering a lecture on his areas of research. He will also be delivering small workshops and mock interviews to our students to give them an insight into the application process for Oxford University and advised them how they should start preparing.
Baroness Chakrabarti will be delivering a lecture on Friday 26th January. Baroness Chakrabarti a British Labour Party politician and a member of the House of Lords. She is a barrister, and was the director of Liberty, an advocacy group, which promotes civil liberties and human rights, from 2003 to 2016. She will be delivering a lecture on her work as a barrister and as a human rights advocate.
