At Oaks Park, we have a thriving Alumni community who continue to play an active role within our school life. We regularly have Alumni coming to speak or write to our students about the types of activities they have undertaken since leaving Oaks Park High School, and also to offer advice and guidance to our current students who may be interested in following a similar path in the future. Our alumni often express that the support they gained at Oaks Park was integral in giving them the ambition to succeed and that the knowledge and skills they learnt at our sixth form have stayed with them into their current roles.
Recent alumni events have included:
● A talk from ex-head boy Ross Attfield on the paths that can be taken to study Law at university and the different careers that can result from reading this subject.
● Support for our Year 12 students on making applications to competitive universities was delivered by ex-students Iryna Vasalyneko and Kuljot Bhrama.
● Tasqeen Ahmed has contributed to our newsletter explaining the importance of women entering STEM related industries.
We are also very proud of the achievements our Alumni have made:
Jacob Hindes, one ex-student, has recently published a graphic novel. Jacob has said that “the tireless work of the maths department at Oaks Park provided me with the skills to help me excel in my current career as a primary school teaching assistant. My courses in Politics and History presented me with a well-rounded summary of belief systems.
Vanisha Solanki, a member of the Oaks Park alumni community, has been selected to represent the Labour Party for the Fullwell war in the 2018 local elections in Redbridge.
Esther Odejimi, who left Oaks Park in 2014 to read a degree in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Oxford, has just taken a role as Partnership Manager at African-Caribbean Women in the City Network.
She has said that Oaks Park, and the effort put in by the hardworking teachers at our school, were key in her successes.
The Alumni Community of Oaks Park High School is very active on LinkedIn, and it is advised that any ex-students ensure that they join our Oaks Park page so that they can be invited to future events and to keep up to date with fellow students. The LinkedIn page will also help you connect and share professional insights and offer current students advice and guidance.
Joining is easy- simply sign up to LinkedIn and add Oaks Park High School under the education settings. This will automatically link you to the Oaks Park page.
For any further questions, or any support you would like to offer our current students as a member of the Alumni community, please contact Liam McDonnell (Higher Education and Super Curriculum Coordinator) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On 18th June we launched the Oaks Park Alumni Society. It was a wonderful occasion and I got to meet again, over 150 past students. Some of those were from our original 2001 year group, so many of them were able to talk about their success in a variety of different fields.
It was so nice to see a number of ex Head Boys and Girls present too. It is hoped that the Alumni Society will be of great benefit to the students in years to come and further support the development of the school.
Personally, I would like to thank the two ex Head Boys, Liam McDonnell and Ross Attfield for their speeches, but more importantly all the students and staff who gave up their time to be there. It was really appreciated.
