CAREERS EDUCATION, INFORMATION, ADVICE & GUIDANCE PROVISION
By gaining the award we have demonstrated a commitment to provide impartial, independent careers education, information, advice and guidance to all young people.
This really is one of the highest accolades an organisation can receive for excellence in this area of work and is definitely something we are very proud of. The IiC standard is about improving students’ awareness of opportunities, raising their aspirations and working with them to ensure they achieve their full potential.
Our careers programme includes detailed sessions delivered through our Personal, Social and Health Education programme (PSHE) and we are happy to have excellent links with outside agencies who are willing to join us, to share their vision for the future of work and how our students can be part of that future.
We are also very proud of our annual in-house Careers and Medical Fairs which enable students to get up close and personal to professionals and companies that can offer them job, training and apprenticeship opportunities. This is an event that grows year on year and is a great success with exhibitors and students alike.
We work closely with the Prospects Careers services to provide weekly one to one careers sessions with Year 11 and above, to enable students to choose the right path for them. As well as taking students to external careers fairs, we have a well stocked careers library and our own Google Careers classroom. All these tools ensure students are well informed about their future options.
The Oaks Park careers co-ordinators are Mrs Smith and Mrs Sumray and to assist them there is a very active Careers Working Party.
