Our Careers programme

Careers programme
There has never been a time when careers guidance has been as important for
young people as it is today. The landscape of education, training and
employment opportunities that students need to navigate is more complex and
more challenging than that faced by previous generations.
Oaks Park is keen to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and
knowledge to investigate, research and enter their chosen professions. We
have included a summary of some of the activities we conduct from Year 7 to
13. More detailed information can be obtained by emailing
scaluda@oakspark.redbridge.sch.uk

Our school’s mission statement is for all students to achieve their personal
best. In careers education, this translates as every student making the
right choices for their progression. We support students in making
well-informed decisions by providing access to differentiated, impartial
and independent information and guidance about the range of options
(including academic, vocational, apprenticeships) that is most likely to
help them to achieve their ambitions. By helping students with decisions
at crucial stages, informing them of all their options and introducing them
to the world of work, we aim to prepare them for the world of work
whichever pathway they choose.

The CEIAG Team

At Oaks Park High School, we have a whole School approach to careers with
all staff supporting the delivery of CEIAG through the pastoral system and
within curriculum areas. In addition, we have a designated CEIAG team who
co-ordinate and monitor the delivery of the Schools Careers Plan:

– Ms S Caluda (Assistant Headteacher/Careers Leader)
– Mr L McDonnell (Progression and Student Enrichment Co-ordinator)
– Ms R Wilson (Sixth Form Office Manager)
– Mrs L Gleeson (Governor of CEIAG)

Aims of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Oaks
Park High School:

– – to raise students’ aspirations and to broaden their horizons
– – to inspire and to empower students to make informed realistic
decisions at key transition points in learning and work
– – to provide good quality independent and impartial careers advice to
students which inspire them and motivates them to fulfil their potential
– – to provide advice and guidance which is in the best interests of the
student
– – to provide opportunities to work in partnership with employers,
training providers, local colleges and others to provide opportunities to
inspire students through real-life contact with the world of work
– – to develop enterprise and employability skills including skills for
self-employment
– – to support inclusion, challenge stereotyping and promote equality of
opportunity

The Schools Careers Policy and Plan sets out how the School provides a fit
for purpose careers programme, which provides our students with the
knowledge and inspiration to succeed in their chosen career paths. The
schools Careers Plan is based on the CDI Framework for Careers, Enterprise
and Employability (2018) and the DfE document “Careers Guidance and
Inspiration in Schools” (January 2018).

Impact of the careers programme on students

Each year we review the destination data. We are proud of our students and
that the school has significantly reduced the number of students not in
further education, employment or training. Our aim is to achieve zero
percent this year. By reviewing our destination data and surveying the
students at each stage of their time with us, this enables the school to
understand our students’ career paths and shape the careers programme and
curriculum going forward.

If you would like more information about our destination data, please
contact scaluda@oakspark.redbridge.sch.uk

Next Review

We are constantly reviewing and improving our careers education and
guidance in line with the Gatsby benchmarks. The next review of the
strategy will be published in September 2019.
