Cashless Catering System
Since November 2009 the School, in conjunction with Harrison Catering & ParentPay, has run a very successful cashless catering system using a fingerprint recognition system for purchasing food & drink in the School’s dining hall. This has significantly reduced queuing times and has enhanced the safety of students as they no longer need to bring any cash into School.
Parents can pay funds in to their child/children’s account on-line at ParentPay.com or by using a top-up card in a shop that displays PayPoint sign.
ParentPay.com is a highly secure payment site that also gives parent access to the menus available at Oaks Park along with a history of payments made and details of your child’s purchases. This account should be monitored on a regular basis to ensure that your child always has sufficient funds to buy the food and drink they require for the day.
Biometric information and how it is used
The information from each pupil that we use is referred to as ‘biometric information’ (see next paragraph). Under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (sections 26 į 28), we are required to notify each parent of a child and obtain the written consent of at least one parent before being able to continue to store your child’s biometric information.
Biometric information is information about a person’s physical or behavioural characteristics that can be used to identify them. The school stores information from each pupil’s fingerprint and uses this information for identification when purchasing refreshments in our dining hall. The system takes measurements of each pupil’s fingerprint and converts these measurements into a template that is stored on the system. An image of the pupil's fingerprint is not stored. The template (t.y. measurements taken from your child’s fingerprint) is what is used to identify them.
You should note that the law places specific requirements on schools & colleges when using personal information, such as biometric information, about pupils for the purposes of an automated biometric recognition system.
(a) the school cannot use the information for any purpose other than those for which it was originally obtained and made known to the parent(ai).
(b) the school must ensure that the information is stored securely;
(c) the school must tell you what it intends to do with the information;
(d) unless the law allows it, the school cannot disclose personal information to another person/body – you should note that the only person/body that the school wishes to share the information with is Cunninghams (Biostore). This is necessary as they provide catering for the School.
Providing your consent/objecting
As stated above, in order to be able to use each pupil's biometric information, the written consent of at least one parent is required. tačiau, consent given by one parent will be overridden if the other parent objects in writing to the use of their child’s biometric information. Panašiai, if the pupil objects to this, the school cannot store or use biometric information for inclusion on the automated recognition system. In these cases a card will be issued and used as an alternative form of identification.
You can also object to the storing of your child’s biometric information at a later stage or withdraw any consent you have previously given. Please note that any consent, withdrawal of consent or objection from a parent must be in writing. tačiau, each pupil can object or refuse at any time to their biometric information being used. Pupil objection does not need to be in writing. We would appreciate it if you could discuss this with your child and explain to them that they can object to this if they wish.
Please note that when the pupil leaves the school their biometric data will be securely deleted.
Please complete the biometric consent section of the admit form to indicate that you consent / do not consent to the storing of your child’s biometric information.
Please note that if the biometric consent section of the admit form is not signed and not returned the School, your child will experience difficulty in obtaining refreshments within the School until you contact us to arrange consent or an alternative form of identification.
