It was a pleasure meeting our new Year 7 students and seeing them get familiar with their peers, their form tutor, their Head of Year, some teaching and support staff as well as our school building and procedures.
They had a wonderful time in lessons, making clocks in Maths, playing rounders in PE, making pasta and sauce to take home, taking part in gruesome science demonstrations, programming ‘microbits’ in ICT, evaluating materials and creating designs in Textiles and being art critics in Spanish – amazing!
In Science, the students studied the topic of digestion. All 3 aspects of Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics were linked to the topic.
The teacher carried out a demonstration to show the physical digestion process, acid reflux and how the mineral ions are absorbed into the bloodstream and how salty water conducts electricity.
The Science staff were complimentary of how attentive the students were and their prior knowledge and contribution to the activities.
The PE Team Leader, Ms Petrie reported that the students were brilliant. They had a rounders lesson, during which they worked cooperatively and were all really eager to perform. They were attentive, worked with real effort (despite the heat) and the quality of skills was impressive. All members of staff involved were very complimentary of their groups.
The students really enjoy the lessons. They engaged well throughout and by the end of the lesson were able to describe a variety of completely different pictures with confidence.
The students were well behaved and focused during the demonstration, asking and answering questions. They worked really well in teams to complete their finished product and worked in a safe and hygienic manner. They seemed to really enjoy the session and for a lot of them, they learnt lots of new skills. They still have yet to master the washing up though!!
The students got very technical programming ‘microbits’ in Computer Science.
In Maths, the students made working clocks! They were able to decide how they wanted to represent the numbers. The students were very keen to impress and developed some really complicated equations. The students conducted themselves very well and showed how creative they could be.
We are very excited about the new year group starting their secondary education journey with us and look forward to them being highly successful in all areas of development.
We hope everyone has a restful Summer, ready to start in September raring to go and be the best!
